Qigong and Chronic illness

Good morning everyone. I have been suffering from Lupus and other autoimmune diseases for over thirty years. My doctors have commented that they are happy but suprised I am still here. I have been blessed with great physicians and wonderful medicine that has really helped. However, I also feel that complementary medicines such as Qigong, my strong faith in God, meditation and Reiki have really helped. I want to explain why Qigong is so beneficial for chronic illness and chronic pain.

The first reason is Qigong combines slow flowing movements along with deep breathing and meditation. This helps reduce stress, because you learn to be in the present allowing for calming of the mind which in turn calms the body. This allows the body's nervous system to relax and not be in the fight or flight state.

A second reason is that Qigong improves blood flow, reduces muscle tension and increases flexibility. The reason I found White Tiger Qigong so helpful is the founder Master Tevia Feng combined Traditional Chinese Medicine with Modern Exercise Science and Muscle Fascia research. This allows for each form and warmup exercises to stretch and wring out different meridians, muscles, fascia, and organs. This allows for the body to release toxins and bring in fresh blood and fresh qi improving flexibility. I have to say these forms and warm up exercises feel amazing!

Finally a third reason is in Traditional Chinese Medicine, each organ and meridian system can carry negative emotions and physical problems. For example, the kidneys and kidney /bladder meridians if not balanced can cause feelings of fear. Some of the physical issues can be urinary problems, headaches, abdominal pain according to Master Tevia Feng in his book " 5 Element Qigong." Therefore The Dragon Form helps these issues by squeezing and wringing out the kidneys and kidney/bladder meridians. This allows the body to get rid of the blockages and replacing with feelings of courage and willpower.

I can honestly say that Qigong has really helped me feel calmer and more grounded. I am in less pain. It is not a replacement for your physician or therapist, but it is a really helpful tool and a great complentary medicine.
